Siargao Airport (officially Sayak Airport, IATA code: IAO ) is your gateway to the Philippines' surf capital. Located on the northeastern tip of Mindanao, Siargao has no direct international flights, so you'll connect through Cebu (CEB) or Clark (CRK) from Manila or other Asian cities. Unlike large international hubs, IAO is a small, charming provincial airport that handles the surge of surfers, tourists, and island-hoppers arriving daily. While its size adds to the island's charm, navigating your arrival can be chaotic if you aren't prepared. Here's everything you need to know to start your Siargao vacation smoothly.

Airlines Serving Siargao Airport
Three major airlines currently operate flights to Siargao:
- Cebgo (operated for Cebu Pacific) – frequent flights from Cebu and Clark to Siargao; some connections from Manila via these hubs, subject to schedule changes. Cebgo also operates a Davao–Siargao route, useful if you're coming from Mindanao.
- Philippine Airlines (PAL) – flights to Siargao routed via Clark/Cebu; Manila turboprop services are being moved to Clark as of early 2026.
- Sunlight Air – routes from Cebu and Clark to Siargao; Manila services, if any, are seasonal and subject to change. Always check the latest schedule.
Attention: Make sure your ticket is to Siargao (IAO) and not Surigao City (SUG) on the mainland; they are different airports, and flying to Surigao requires an additional ferry to reach Siargao.
Clark Gateway: With turboprop flights shifting away from Manila, Clark has become a key gateway for Siargao. If you’re coming from Luzon, it’s often easier to fly Clark–Siargao and reach Clark from Manila by P2P bus (about 2–3 hours).

- Surf season peaks roughly from August to November (bigger swells).
- Dry and family high season runs around March–May.
- Overall peak crowds are usually in December holidays and March–May.

What to Expect Upon Arrival
Siargao Airport is refreshingly simple, but that simplicity comes with some quirks:
- Walk from the plane: You'll walk across the tarmac to the terminal (bring sunglasses!)
- Baggage claim: Expect 15-20 minutes for luggage to appear in a small carousel for baggage collection.
- Environmental/tourism fee – on arrival, you may be asked to pay a small local environmental or tourism fee of around ₱20 (~$0.35 USD) per person. This is collected by the LGU and may be waived for local residents with valid ID.
- Terminal fee – domestic terminal fees (often around ₱150 (~$2.70 USD)) are usually already included in your airline ticket and are paid on departure, not on arrival. Check your booking details to confirm.
- Small terminal: One exit leads directly to the pickup area filled with drivers. Sayak Airport is undergoing terminal expansion to increase passenger capacity, so you may see some construction, but facilities are gradually improving.
- Limited facilities: Basic restrooms and a small store. There is an ATM at the airport terminal, but ATMs in General Luna and Dapa can run out of cash on weekends and during peak season. Bring enough cash from Manila/Cebu as a buffer (see our Siargao packing list for a full money and documents checklist), and use GCash or cards only as backup.
